Morning Meditations
Since going back to work full time, I've gotten in the habit of starting each day with an hour or so of sitting on the couch with my morning tea and reading something that I might not otherwise make time for. These are books on meditation or philosophy, essays by poets, self-help books (for lack of a better term) that actually help, and so on -- books that I always mean to read, but somehow never get around to doing. And now I do. It's a nice way to start the day.
Here are a few books that have been particularly meaningful to me lately:
- Learning to Fall: The Blessings of an Imperfect Life by Philip Simmons
- Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown
- A Year Right Here: Adventures with Food and Family in the Great Nearby by Jess Thomson
- The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg
- Upstream: Selected Essays by Mary Oliver
